BR 2.4 liter, high rpm build.

Alright, I'm in the process of building a new offering.

I'm putting together a full 2.4 liter engine that I want to see make big power and fairly high RPM.

I'm going to use a 100mm billet crankshaft, the 2.4 liter block, steel rods and forged pistons.

The goal is to build this engine capable of 900+ hp and 9,000 rpm. I believe using the billet crank and quality parts inside it is possible.

This should produce some great torque and be a hell of an option for street oriented builds who want the most low/mid range they can get.

Slorice was the first to send me an e-mail about being interested and we will be using his car for the build.

We will use either the HTA86 or the PTE 6765 on the car.

In the past the biggest problem with the strokers or any engine using the stock 100 mm crank that we've seen is the crank shaft cracking. With the billet crank we are going to use we hope to eliminate that problem.

I can't answer questions on longetivity or anything else. This will be the first one we built and until I build it, test it and see how long it lives I can't say.

The 2.0 builds we've done will go over 10,000 rpm without an issue. The 2.1's technically will rev even higher than that and so far seem to be working out very well. The 2.3's I recommend a maximum rev limit of 8500 rpm.

The truth of the matter is 1 in about 4,000 EVO owners need an engine that goes to 10,000 rpm. Maybe even less than that. I believe in setting the rev limiter about 50 rpm higher than the RPM required to cross the finish line in 4th gear in the 1/4 mile. So if your car can do that at 7500 rpm then you need a rev limiter set about 7550.

11-25-09. Today I finished assembling the 2.4 liter engine. It came out really nice. Very happy with the tolerances, fitment of the parts and how the engine feels when it rotates. After building thousands of these you get a good feel for how it feels to just rotate it by hand, and this feels nice.

Definitely interested in the progress of this build. I'm leaning toward your 2.1 now.

    good info.

I think this will work out well. Can't wait to see what slorice's car will do with the new setup.

Yes, I would like to see this as well.
Are you keeping the balance shafts on this or not?

No balance shafts in the block, no oil skirters either. The 2.4 block needs to have them machined if you want to keep them, we are not going to run them. We built a lot of 2 liters without them too in the past, never a problem.

  6. Wow, I can understand the no balance shafts. But I'm surprised your not going with oil squirters too?
Did you mention what piston/rod combo you were going with already?
Thx for keeping this going, also.

Sure there are turbos to make power past 10,000 rpm, reality is though, the chances of you needing to go to 10,000 rpm is very slim.

Thats a good point david. 8500 is good for most turbo's anyway. How's this coming along anyway?
