    Default Cts-v vs evo viii

Ok so here's the deal. There's a guy that owes us some money at the shop I work at from work we did to his jet ski over the summer. Now he just bought a new cts-v. My boss decides to tell him me (evo 8) should race the cts-v (guy that owes us money) for double or nothing. We won't lose money either way but if I win we get double and I get the other half as a bonus Now my question. I know there is no way I can beat him from a roll so we are going to do it from a stop. He just got the car and it's rwd so we're hoping he's going to spin a lot off the start. I need to practice launches so I was wondering how strong the drivetrain is on the evo's. I have a shep stage II trans and t-case but I don't want to snap a drive shaft or anything. I don't want to practice slipping the clutch so it's easier on everything I just want to dump it and go. If someone could let me know if this is safe or not that would be great. Btw my car is only around 300 awhp

    what mods do you have?

why would you worry about your driveline with such low power?

I say go from dig, and hope you can stay out in front.

Hks hi power TBE with no cat
    MBC but only running 20psi
    K&N filter

I know it's not much but I'm waiting till the summer to start modding. I was just concerned about an awd launch from a stop without slipping the clutch a bit. Just wanted to make sure the drivetrain can withstand it bc I don't want to still be on the line after he takes off bc I broke something

I'm just going to be bunt. Just let the guy walk with the money don't even bother racing him. The car makes 556 hp and 551 lb·ft. It runs a 12 flat. Even if you do get the lauch (no offense but doesn't sound like your confindent in lauching the car) he's just going to reel you in and then pass you. If you race to 60 then yea you have a chance anything pass that and I think it's going to be bye bye evo.

Agree with this guy. Although it probably won't go 12 flat.

Also your car doesn't make 300whp, don't state numbers unless you have had it on a dyno.

I just got the car a week ago and it was an idea my boss had. It's not a long race about 1/8 mile so I was hoping to get him bc of the start and him being rwd. I'm probably not going to do it now bc I don't want to drop a bunch of money into it till the summer. Thanks for the input guys!

I know I haven't had it on the dyno but that's why I said around 300 bc I don't know the exact numbers

    A) you say "new cts-v"...how new?

    B) Your Evo isn't going to break. Go practice launching it.

    C) It's not you that's out the money. Race him. Even if you lose, your boss can still take him to court.

Why is your boss offering up your car instead of getting the money?

Spoolinonyou- I don't know the exact year but I know it's at least a 2010.
Even if I don't race him I still want to practice launches just so I can get good at them anyways.
    Thanks for the input.

Kroper- It's just an offer my boss made. I can choose to do it or not. He just wanted to know if I wanted to bc if I win I get the other half which would be great. He has owed us this money since mid summer and we could never get ahold of him but one of his friends told him about the offer and he was all for it

I'm guessing you're probably making more like 270whp considering your mods, and the CTS-V is making 556hp and 551lbft. Even though it's a heavy, that CTS-V will probably walk all over you. Don't do it unless you're confident in your driving ability, and his lack there of.

I'm pretty confident in my driving ability with quick shifts and at the right rpm. I just need to get the launches down bc I didn't want to try if it was like the dsm's if you had a stock drivetrain you risk breaking something easily if you launch as fast as the evo. I know he doesn't have much experience with any fast cars so that's why we were hoping to get him on the launch and hold him off for the short race. I know if it was longer ir from a roll I'd be left trailing behind

DSMs do not have that risk.

I've launched stock driveline DSMs with over 450TQ a shit ton of times.

New, supercharged CTS-V will hand it to a Evo up to about 425whp on the EVO. Even though it's rear wheel drive, it **will** get traction. My Daily Driver is a E55 AMG which has a 5.5L supercharged V8, Rear Wheel Drive rated at 469hp/516tq. Bone Stock 96 Degree heat, I drove to the track, car hot, air conditioning in the staging lanes, pulled up to the line, 1.9x 60' and 12.2x@116 Bone Stock by putting the car in drive and standing on the gas. In colder weather they go 11's,stock.

The CTS-V has more power at about the same weight. The magnetic suspension on the CTS-V is tuned very well and it will get traction and it will go 11.50-12.10's @ 120ish with an inexperienced driver at the wheel.

The info I wrote was from wiki but then again it was probably a 12 flat by someone who can drive well and not your average joe like OP will be racing. If it was me OP I wouldn't even bother putting the strain on the car.

I would say that if the CTS-V is automatic, then it's game over. If it's manual, then I guess the CTS-V drive could have mush between the ears and not be able to drive a stick.

This is a great read on big heavy cars that people think are slow: http://www.thesmokingtire.com/2011/r...-to-cls63-amg/ This would hand it to the CTS-V but I don't think your evo will if it's only 300hp. 3.4 seconds 0-60 with just a reflash

My favorite quote from the article:

"Despite what your forum or 13 year old cousin has said, these cars are fast as hell. I know its 0-60 time (4.4) isn’t as fast as the Nissan R38 that had twin-supra motors and really strong guy pushing behind it, but in the real world the CLS63 AMG is fast as fuck. I spent a week with one. The only place this car is slow is on the internet."

I understand that this car is faster than my evo but if he's inexperienced and traction isn't going to be the same as a drag strip (it will be on the street) so that's where I would hope to get him is on the start. The plan is hoping he will spin a lot on the start
