    Default #929 Evo --> 2011 Season Recap

Hello everyone. I don't frequent this particular forum much, but hoping to change that. Figured I would post up a thread hear detailing what I do with my Evo - Road/Race! So here's some background on the car and the 2011 season in particular. If you've got any questions, post up!

    2006:
After previously owning and selling a 2003 Evo, I purchased the Evo brand new and within a few weeks I already had it tuned and putting down 306whp/300wtq. June 10, 2006. As part of the stlpreludeclub, I participated in the Phil Wicks Driving Academy held annually here at Gateway. I remember it was a lot of fun to floor the car on the straights! In all I had 4 days on track in 2006. Stock suspension, stock tires, stock brake pads, stock fluids, etc. Only mod was exhaust and he tune!

    2007:
After 2006, I was hooked on track events. I did some actual mods to the car to make it more track-worthy. I installed Swift springs, an AMS FMIC and an MBC. I had it retuned and put down 311whp/321wtq at AMS. I later bought my first set of track tire - 255 Toyo RA1's.

    2008:
2008 really opened my eyes... I added a 4pt rollbar, 6pt harnesses, ran 255 NT01's, upgraded pads and rotors and ran my first set of coilovers. I ran with NASA for the first time and was signed off for TT (Time Trial). At this point the car was running in TTA with 311whp@3405lbs; definitely not optimized to the rules.

    2009:
For 2009 I demodded the car a bit and ran NASA TTB with some good success. I switched to some Muellerized JIC coilovers and started running Hoosier R6 DOT slicks. They took a bit to get used to, but wow did the times drop throughout the entire year. In all I ran 5 NASA events and took 4 firsts! I also bought a truck and trailer at this point.

    2010:
In 2010 I started the year in TTB, but modded the car into TTA mid-year just to get more competition. I finished with 11 wins in 3 different classes, including 4 track records and ended up with a Regional Championship --> Midwest TTA. It was a really fun year that included a nearly disastrous trip to VIR and a bit of magazine exposure.

    2011
For 2011 I had my sites set on going to the NASA National Championships. I picked up a new set of AST coilovers, and played with some different aero setups. In all I finished with 10 wins and 5 track records. I also claimed the Regional Championship in both the Midwest and Great Lakes regions and finished 3rd out of 14 competitors at Nationals.

Yes, it's an APR GTC-200 mounted with the extended risers. That's it in the 3rd pic too. I picked it up used and when I went to adjust one side, the bolt literally snapped in 2.

There's a few later pics with my Kognition wing which just dwarfs that GTC-200!

Its nice to see you over here Nate! Glad to have you.

Excellent job with the car as always. So are you keeping the car now? I know you were going to sell it for awhile. If so Im looking forward to seeing what 2K12 has in store. Let us know how/if we can help.

    Thx Jarrod!

I'm keeping it for 2012! Yeah, I had it posted for a bit with a 'firm' price and had some tire-kickers of course. But I'm already prepping for 2012! Still waiting on the NASA rules to see how I prep the car, hoping to get this this week or next. After that, I'm figuring you'll hear from me! Thx.

To be honest, I couldn't feel a difference with the GTC-200 on track compared to the stock wing. Now I didn't play with the angle too much but it wasn't much different.

The Kognition wing I could feel creating rear downforce in the corners. So much that it caused the front end to push. It really needs a front splitter to balance it out, but my ruleset didn't really allow for it unless I were to remove something else (like my exhaust) off the car or run a smaller tire. Neither of which sounded good!

I'm running 2 sets of 18x9.5" rims. I ran a 255/35-18 Hoosier A6 most of 2011. And I've got 245 Dunlop Z1 StarSpecs mounted on the stockers for street stuff and when the track is wet.

Ok, thanks for the info. I am looking into front splitters also. I was thinking about going up to 18s this year but Im not really sure yet. How are the Hoosiers? I would like to run slicks this year. Cant go wrong with starspecs those are great tires!!

Splitters... Damn there's a ton of them and a majority of them are absolute crap and don't actually create downforce. So shop (or create) wisely!

Hoosiers are unlike anything I've ran before. Don't get me wrong, the starspecs are crazy good for street tires - especially being they don't get overly greasy. But I can run 3-4 seconds faster on a roadcourse with Hoosiers as compared to them! They aren't cheap and they do heatcycle out, so keep that in mind. A good set of R-comps like RA1's, R888 or my recommendation - NT01's will last a lot lot longer, work in light rain (where Hoosiers won't) and are a lot cheaper. Depends what you're looking for.

Ok thanks..I am going to run the starspecs in the rain, and I am still up in the air on slicks. I just did autox this year and would like to do some road racing this coming year. Thanks for the info!

Nice thread! I like the action shots. Followed some of your threads on the OTHER site, so glad you finally posted some here. NT-01s are great...I'm selling mine. (shameless plug)

Thanks. I've lurked on this site from time to time, but rarely posted much. Seems like a decent group here. Somewhere between 40,000 idiots and the small sites where 4 friends are constantly posting over and over again.

I'm debating doing somewhat of a 'build thread' for 2012....
