    Default Opinions on drop-in pistons/rods

I'm a tech at a Toyota dealership, and a recent tsb for oil consumption on the 2AZ 4 cyl. got me thinking about a pre-failure budget engine build. For the 2AZ engines if the cylinder bore and cross-hatch looks good we replace the pistons and rings and ship it. I was wondering what you guys thought about replacing stock pistons and rods with forged pistons and stronger rods and new rings and bearings with the engine in the car to strengthen the engine before you had a catastrophic failure of one of those components?

David, I was reading through the dyno sheet comparison thread, and saw that some of the cars were using drop-ins. Do you hone the cylinders at all when going this route?

The drop in builds we've done, many of them, have been with exceptional results. Yes, I always hone them.

Thanks, if I can get through this last year of my wife's grad school, things should look up from there!
