BR Evo X MR going into limp mode on way to track day
BR tuned 08' Evo X MR with Stage 1 will all of a sudden not shift correctly, search for gears, lock in 6th gear then just completely be gearless. NO Warning lights!!! Happened twice this summer and we thought it was the 100 degree weather as well as possible crappy gas from Speedway (was 93 octane but who knows if ethanol played a part). We got it to go away the next day with fresh 93 gas, octane booster, seafoam.
Fast forward to today, 60 degrees full tank of gas from Speedway 93 octane and for the roadtrip I already added Seafoam and octane booster before the Evo is filled with 100 Octane race gas at Mid-Ohio racetrack. Merging into traffic, not hard and it goes to 6th gear, jerky when turbo spools, then No Gear selection possible (even paddle shifting) and no power at all. No warning lights. Turn car off, turn On and it's reset and running fine again. Scared to get on it.
Any ideas???????
All fluids were changed and fresh this past week. Only thing not checked is the 14 month old BR Air Filter???? Car was tuned at BR 14 months ago and 7000 spring/summer/fall only miles.
Bad gas is my only guess. Sucks that the car is on it's way to the track. Hopefully 100 octane and supersport mode will give it what it needs. If not we'll have to re-tune..... My wife's first track day so hopefully the tech check tonight the porsche guys will find something. Sucks I'm not there to help.

Got the code readout and the heat sensor needs replaced and the maf needs cleaned or replaced. Got a full day of HPDE in and 1 session the 2nd day. Bummed.

Sorry to hear, I missed this thread. No check engine lights at all? Very odd.

Pretty certain speedway only carries 91 and 92 octane. A family member when they bought a new car would randomly have issues, traced it to only speedway gas. No idea what was causing it but the car would run awful on it and eventually stall and wouldn't re start until the tank was drained. Strange

That doesn't sound tune related. Maybe your TCU is having issues. When you say it searches for gears what exactly is happening? Does it show the gear indicator going through different gears without you changing it. What modes are you in when all this happens?

Just posted an update in the Tech FAQ section. Codes were traced back by our porsche tuner via the help of evom forums to the SST fluid. Drained it and it was burnt, filter completely gummed up, with metal shavings.
If you think about if the fluid lost viscosity then it would just limp the transmission. Odd was no warning lights, not even a check engine. The metal shavings is scaring us that we should just send the car to mitsu to see if the SST should be replaced??? Or are the shavings part of the break-in period on first fluid change? More scary is fluid isn't supposed to be changed until 30k miles and my wife drives mild other than 3 laps at mid-ohio. (granted it's 2.5 years old tho so that's where the breakdown in viscosity may have happened). thx
