Default question about evo 9 starter... please read

i havent driven the car in about 3 months. i took it out of the garage and drove it up to work. so yesterday i took this guy for a ride... scared the shit out of him lol. i pull back into work, park it and let it run for a few mins in the parking lot to cool down.
later on in the evening i go to pull it into the shop and click.... click.... click! push the car in and rack it. this morning i remove the starter and it looks like the starter went for a ride on the flywheel! you've got to be shitting me

so i text awd mike. mike says hes out and this seems to be the norm with these things lately. so now i am thinking if this is the case i aint spending $480 on a new starter from mitsu with a 1 year warranty. so i start checking around auto part stores to get a life time warranty starter, and guess what... THEY CANT EVEN GET 1

so into further research 8's have a different starter from the 9's? 8's cost $200 and 9's are $480!!! are you fuckin kidding me?!?!?!

what is different in the 2 starters? block or trans different somehow. i mean if i have to call buschur and spend $500 i will. but if the 8 will work i will get that. eitherway i will use dei starter heat wrap on the new 1.

They are the same on the nose, and are completley interchangable, slight difference on the wire connection angle, no biggie, use the EVO 8 one.

Heat cause that? Or just wear and tear on these high hp motors? Or both?

Timmay where did you pick a new starter up at?
8th I dunno man, seems to me like its just a shit part? I never had any problems with this car in Ohio. It's almost like maybe the heat is a problem out here. I am wrapping it this next time to be safe.
Yea mullen they do look the same. I just didn't understand a 9 starter costing almost $300 more.

Did you put the new one on yet? I changed mine early this year or late last year and I couldn't believe the difference in how fast the car cranked!

No I didn't yet. NAPA says they have 1 in Dallas its gonna be here in the morning. I called the dealer down the street from me and they quoted me $715, only to tell me mitsu doesn't even show 1 at there depots in the states.
So i went with the NAPA starter. I told the guy what the dealer told me. There is a late 05 starter and an early 06. Based on my vin and i have an early 06 starter. He says well we will see. If doesn't fit Dave I will call you guys for the order. I generally don't care about money but I have to be out of this house buy the end of the month... Lease is up! THANK FREAKIN GOD!!!!!
