    Default Built engine won't start

I am posting this for a friend.

We recently sent his engine / head to BR for the works. It is a fully built 6262 car. When trying to start the car, you can see the spark plugs firing through the phonelic (sp) gasket. The car is getting fuel, we can see the spark, but she just won't crank over. My guess is a bad cam angle sensor, but am looking for other things that it may be. The timing is good, the engine has break in oil, we put the stock injectors in and I scaled them to 513cc, fpr is at ~20-30 during the cranks and we have tried using a full battery. The car cranks, but will not start. Any recommendations?

    MODS:

    stock ecu
    stock mas
    jmf intake mani
br head w/ bf 272 cams
    br engine 10:1 cr
    fluidampr pulley
    pte6262 w/ ets turbo kit
os geiken clutch (converted to pull)
    stock injectors
    aeromotive fpr

    Thanks for the help.

Are you sure the fuel pump is running? Cranking a new engine for long periods is about the worst thing you can do to the bearings.

I am 99% positive it is getting fuel. I checked the lines, there was fuel. I also put a rag on the end of the exhaust and tried to start the car. The AFR went to a ~15,x on the LC-1. I know cranking for long periods is horrible for the car. I have only helped with this start up once. IDK how much or how long it has been turned over.

He has the phonelic (sp) heat barrier gasket on the intake manifold. You can literally see the firing order going off as he cranks the engine. I was observing the engine bay while he turned it over. Thanks for the input, I am still pondering what it can be.

I was taking a guess that it was the Crank Angle Sensor being a culprit? I just can't put a finger on it. Thanks for the help.

If you can see the spark plugs firing by looking at the intake manifold spacer then the intake valves have to be open, they need to be closed when the spark plug ignites for an engine to run.

Thats what im saying... AND did you forget to install and intake manifold? or is the gasket clear plastic?

Right. I am aware of that. I actually think we figured it out. The crank angle sensor was installed wrong by the guy's mechanic. The intake mani gasket is imaged below.

See above. We will see if fixing the crank angle sensor (gold plate behind crank) is going to be our resolution. The person's car ended up being cylinder washed as they were trying to start the car too much without it running. Cylinder wash has been fixed. They are doing the fix now. Will post back results. Thanks for the feedback guys. It sucks for the owner, but lessons have been learned. I will post more information as it becomes available.

Ended up being the crank sensor. I had a feeling it was either that or the cam angle sensor. Apparently the installer didn't check it before putting it on. I am not mentioning names, but trying to provide information as far as symptoms. As stated earlier, the car was catching (but not starting) and then would die. Thanks for the help and information from all of you.
