Default HOW TO "INTAKE BOX" Utilizing your headlight covers

This is nothing new to the dsm community, but it was something that I wanted to improve upon in my own car,

Previously I using a carburator velocity stack which was welded on to a 5 inch diameter aluminum tube, This effectively feed the gt42, but I really dont think it was aesthetically pleasing nor aerodynamically functional at the top end of the track.

Here is a picture of the funnel that I am talking about
    .
As you can imagine, the aero at the top end of the track must be horrible, wth the headwind going under the hood and probably acting like a giant parachute... so I figured I would make an airbox.

The slits that I cut in the existing lamps are approximately the same cross sectional area, that you would have with a 5 inch circle.
Basically I wanted to get rid of the funnel and have something that was just as effective as the ram air but was a little more aerodynamic as well as aesthetically pleasing.

I cut up some cardboard and after some breaking and cutting and having rex tack it in , this is what we came up with..
in the picture below you can see the pitch and general slope of the box

a view of the 5 inch tube entering

my buddy then put the headlight portion in an english wheel to give the plate the same contour as the stock headlight. He did a really good job

a side view to show the contour

and a general view of what it will look like

Next on the agenda for this, is to have everything welded up, as we need to tweak everything so that it matches the body line and the hood.

    More to come as always

some small updates on this thing, I wqs able to hard mount it in the car

moving on with the project, we ended up cutting some steel out of the front section, so that it would be easier to install the 5 inch diameter aluminum pipe.

This was the end result of some trimming

Now that everything is mocked up , it will be sent of to be welded up. Then paint.

    thats it for now
