Default I need some help and I need it fast, daily driver is down.1991 Eagle Talon TSi.

This is an issue because it's my ONLY car right now. I have a 91 Eagle Talon TSi, that has pretty much had EVERYTHING rebuilt. Engine, head, trans, new turbo etc. I did the rebuild about 5 years ago so it's not new but up until about a year ago, this car was only driven on weekends.

My other daily driver died so I started to drive this and it runs so well, i just never bothered to get anything else.

Today, Black Friday, I was heading to work when I pulled off my street and I noticed, I had no boost. I could put the peddle all the way down and nothing. The boost gauge would hit like negative 5 or maybe 0 if I was lucky. No balls at all.

I pulled off into a gas station, shut off the car and did a quick once over and saw nothing out of the ordinary. I restarted the car and pulled back out into the road to a light that was red. As I was doing this, under very low throttle I noticed a high speed whining sound. Like a high speed fan.

I blipped the throttle and noticed the sound got faster and more noticeable. The sound you hear when a Super Charger is about to let loose.

I very carefully drove the two or three blocks back home and i noticed the whole time I was driving I had that low whine Super Charger sound coming from my turbo. I tried to build boost again, nothing.

Thoughts? The turbo was a brand new about 5 years ago, MHI EVO II Big 16G I bought from Buschur. It's only got around 30,000+ miles on it.

My first thought was the shaft snapped but one of my friends is telling me the sound sounds like it's spinning just fine because he thinks the sound I'm hearing is over spin due to a boost leak.

I drove the car 100 miles a 2 days ago, ZERO issues though so I don't see how I could just get a boost leak that bad, that's like a hose missing type of boost leak.

Thoughts? I really haven't had time to check it over. I had a have a friend give me a ride to work and I'm sitting here stressing out over the issue now.

I'm going to pull the cartridge out tonight and check it out but I'm curious if anyone can guess as to what I should be expecting to find.

    Thanks.

I have an HKS pipe kit I bought from David years ago and Freightliner Semi hose with T-Bolt Clamps I bought from Freightliner so i doubt I blew a hose off. All the pipes, hoses are top of the line and all metal fittings on the IC, TB, down pipe etc are flared GOOD. Also, I looked, they all looked to be in place.

Now i suppose my IC could have a hole in it or maybe i blew a waste gate or BOV line. Been doing reading all day, no one thinks its the turbo but a boost leak.

I know the turbo is spinning, its spinning like a freaking supercharger so I guess that means no resistance so I'm hearing over spin?

I only drove it 2 blocks like that so, I crept it home.

    Will check it over tonight.

Sounds like the turbo is blown. Metal is scraping, hence the whine. It can't spin fast enough to create boost.

    Default Fixed...

It was definitely not spinning slow. It was probably spooling 10x faster then it should have. Sounded like a damn super charger kicking in. It was moving some serious air....... Right down and out the exhaust apparently! LOL!

The waste gate actuator was stuck. Once I figured out it wasn't moving at all, I locked onto it with some Vise-Grips and I couldn't move the rod to save my life. I was beating on the Vise-Grips with a 32 oz Snap-On dead blow hammer. Finally it popped loose and I have BOOOOOOOSSSSTTTTT!!!!

I pulled it off, examined it and found golden rust powder inside the vacuum lines etc.

Looks like a I need to order a replacement actuator... OH DAVE!!! Guess i gotta see if Buschur stocks them.
