06 MR 6 speed help
One of my friends at work has an 06 mr, 45k miles, stock except for an air filter, and his trans is stuck in nuetral. It will not go into any gear, even with the engine off. A couple weeks ago it started to get hard to put into 6th while driving, it wouldn't grind, but took extra force to get it to go in.
I was wondering if anybody has seen this problem? He is trying to decide if he wants to take it to the dealer under warranty or fix it himself. We are both toyota techs, and have seen numerous hack jobs come through our dealer from other shops, so it is hard for him to trust someone else taking the trans out of his car.
Can anyone recommend a good mitsu dealer/tech in the indianapolis area if he decides to go that route?

Why not go to the dealer if it's still under warranty? No doubt that will be a VERY expensive job if taken anywhere else.

He doesn't want the job to be hacked out. If you saw some of the hack jobs we've seen, from other dealers even, you wouldn't trust anyone to work on your car,and would want to fix it yourself. If the cost is outrageous and if we knew a trustworthy Mitsubishi dealer/tech to do the work he would take it there.
The reason I was posting for advice was if by chance this was a known problem, and maybe something simple. He is capable of doing the repair whatever it is, but would rather have it fixed for free under warranty if he knew a dealer he could trust to do the job right.
Thanks for any help / recommendations anyone can provide.

I hope you guys fixed it already, but if not, try this: Try to force it in 5th gear. Then it will free up and go in any gear. This is common on many 6 spds, and it happens once you put it in 6th gear, it somehow gets stuck and can't get it to go in any gear after that.
If this doesn't work then it's probably a more severe problem.
Good luck.

Didn't realize this was an Indy problem.
Take it to Brian Terhune at Family Mitsubishi on the West side, or directly contact Brian for non-dealership work. He's an ASE Master Tech and Mitsubishi Certified.

Thanks for the replies! Brian actually has the car right now. He is at Skillman on the southside now. We were able to get it unstuck and drive it to him, but the trans did have to come out and get torn apart, I haven't heard what had to be replaced yet. Thanks agian for the help
