Default Poll for changes to the 19th annual DSM/EVO Shootout-VOTE PLEASE!!

Ok, I have ideas for the 19th annual shootout, 2011.

What I would like to do is move our Saturday dyno day/car show to the track. I don't know how much of a draw the dyno or people seeing our shop is. For us it is a ton of extra work. This year we dyno'd about twenty cars and did some with just single pulls. Lots of front exit exhausts which are a mess for us. Oil and water leaks, more mess. At the end of the day there are two or three of us that don't get to socialize and meet people and are just hot and tired.

After meeting with the track and getting the approval for the autocross again next year I'd like to make some changes.

What I want to do is move the event to the Summit side of the track, this is the west side. We use the Budweiser/east side on Sunday. The entry fee would be minimal, $5 for the day. This would cover the use of the track, clean up and water/sewer. What this would get us is better organized parking to check out the cars, open concession stands, more bathrooms, and a section for vendors. It would also allow for a large number of autocross participants. The spectators can watch the autocross, check out the cars, vendors or if they want to watch the normal Saturday drags that will be taking place they can do that too. I think I can also find a portable dyno if there's enough interest.

So I'm going to post a poll. I'd appreciate it if you guys can link this to other sites where people who come to the shootout will see it. I'd like to see a huge participation in the voting.

    Thank you!

I like hanging out at he Shop all day, but it is a clusterfuck. I can see the motivation to change it. The more I think about doing it at the track the more I like it. We should have a single area to consolidate the fast and interesting cars. For example, the quick class cars, 4g63 swapped vehicles like the Fiero, etc. Is the summit side grass or pavement?

I think this a great idea Dave, but the portable dyno would be a must. Even though there is only a small percentage of cars that dyno, I think it is a very popular part of Saturday's activities.

I like the idea of moving the activities to the track for Saturday as well as it does create alot of confusion and extra work for you guys. I think the dyno would be a must as well if at all possible. It would be nice to be there Saturday with the normal racing program going on as well. The Summit side is grass with paved aisles so that is not a problem. I'm all for it as I think that would work out pretty nicely.

Totally agree. Alot of the fun is watching the car's dyno on Saturday.

Thanks for voting, please get the word out to get others over here to vote on this.

I'm sure we can find a portable dyno. I may even be able to talk Mustang into bringing theirs out for this, I'll contact them today.

As was said, the roadways are paved, but the rest of the area is grass. I prefer it that way because it's a LOT cooler than all pavement.

The track will have to be sectioned off in some way to keep the autocross areas completely seperate from the parked cars/spectators.

My buddy has a portable 2wd dyno and would most likely be happy to bring it out. He's right around the corner in Medina.

I think some of the appeal of Saturday is hanging out at the shop, but it's a clusterfuck with all the people. The old days of having the car show at the track while the shootout was happening were good times though too.

Uh Ron, most of the cars that want to dyno are AWD, this is the DSM/EVO Shootout, remember? hahahaha

I just spoke to Mustang Dyno, they have a portable MD500AWD dyno, actually crossed my mind to buy it, it's bad ass. I don't need it though. They said if they still have it next year they can bring it, if they don't they can put me in contact with who buys it and possibly get them to bring it.

I think the big draw for the dyno at our shop is that it's the only real "excitement" going on. Replacing the dyno with the autocross to watch or even participate in would give something else exciting to watch. Then there would be the drag racing too. We could probably come up with some other "events" to add for something to do. It would also give a chance for some tech seminars, which we use to do.

The big part of the Shootout besides the racing is watching people put down ridiculous numbers on the famed low-reading BR Mustang Dyno.

That, and the Town of Wakeman shutting down Main Street just for US is awesome by itself.

My vote is to keep it at BR, albeit there's a lot of work that goes into hosting it at the shop.

For a lot of people every year, it's their first trip. To see the actual Buschur Racing shop up close and personal is all part of the experience.

    Just my 2 cents.

I'm on the fence for this poll. I kind of agree with Spoolin above me. I'll sleep on it.

Track would be better, more room, plus people can watch the auto X as well instaed of having to choose like this past year. It would be a lot more organized becuase everybody would be lined up and not spread out everywhere, plus it would be easier on the Buschur crew allowing them to actually enjoy the event instead of working it, plus more bathrooms, etc. The dyno, personally who cares, it is like watching paint dry, oh look a car that is not moving I really want to watch that, do you see dyno runs on Speedvision??

Move to the track. If it sucks, it sucks and you move back to the shop for the 20th. You won't know until you give it a shot. I can't remember a year that we spent the full day at the shop on Saturday, just end up getting bored at some point. For me personally watching autocross and the Saturday drags in between everything else is much more exciting then walking laps from Subway to Buschur Racing all day long.

    David,

Why must you mess with this awesome event? Will you not rest until it is totally ruined? Lets keep everything the same… Change is bad!

Just messing with you… I think that that it is a great idea! I really wish I could have spent time watching AutoX, but I didn’t want to miss the drag racing action. This will give people a chance to see and participate in both! And that is how we used do it, I think that it worked nicely!

Now, if can just add an Import event on Friday, we will back to the original glory of 3 straight days of events .

As for dyno, I do not really care about it one way or another. I never understood the interest of watching dyno pulls. But if enough people are into it, to cover the expense, then do it!

But, with so many RWD/FWD cars and AWD cars being able to get into FWD mode with relative ease, I am not sure AWD dyno is worth the hassle (unless you can get one easily).

I voted to move it to the track! That's how it used to be way back and it worked well. There is * plenty * of room and as you mentioned, it's not all pavement. As Leon mentioned, it will give more people the chance to watch the Auto-x.

Im fine with it being @ the track.. thats how it used to be back when it was on the same weekend @ import nat. Friday was test&tune on Sat there used to be AutoX going on...carshow and import nationals. and Sunday was the DSM Shootout

While it is aw-inspiring to see the entire town shutdown for us .. its prob also a PITA for some of the locals too. People wanting to see the "Buschur Racing world headquarters" in person could drop in on Friday.

I think at the track would be cool but I think the dyno is a must. I know for me and my friends it was very cool seeing cars put down some very impressive numbers in person. Although it is cool seing rt20 closed, I think it would be much easier to see all the cars at the track. I feel like when I see pictures I ended up missing a lot of the cars this year. Like dave99 said, for the people who want to see the shop, just go down on Friday, that's what we've done in the past.

Can't wait for next year, will be my 4th and hopefully 1st time bringing an evo, since the other 3 my dsm was broken lol

Maybe a Friday dyno day is in order?
