I go back to one of my points being that some of these guys that are complaining are most likely the same guys that are staging too soon! The track (as mentioned in the email) has a responsibility to ensure that the previous racers are far enough down the track. Racers can not just dive right in and expect lights to drop. People should know that. Having said that, it seems to me like that is not a Sportsman or Pro tree issue. So not much changes really. Should people not bother to vote at this point? Also, our local track will happily run a Pro Tree for us on any given Test And Tune night if asked.

    Just my opinion.

There were several problems with starting:

    1. No enforcement of the courtesy staging
    2. Long setting on the Auto Start (or not using Auto Start)
    3. Starter not controlling when people actually stage…

These are all real problems, but why is a Full Tree a solution? To me, it seem like with a little effort, TRACK can eliminate most of these problems!

If they do not correct these problems, Full Tree is NOT going to be solution.

I think people understand that heads-up racing will still be there, it is just now it will be watered down, heads-up racing. Import drag racing has being down the toilet, and this is just another step down for us.

BTW when we complained about non-racers voting for the Full Tree (despite your request that they don’t), and asked for an open vote, you said “tough”. And how you say that “improper people” are voting for the Pro Tree. Sounds to me like you have made up your mind and this is just a formality. In which case… too bad, but there isn’t much sense to argue about it.

If it's a test and tune, no one is racing. There is no winner or loser, everyone is just there for a slip. If the track won't switch the tree for you though, that's a different problem.

Either way I don't see why any practice is needed. You go when the light is green. We all practice that on the street every day, green means go. As long as you know it's coming just leave when you see lights.

As far as the pro tree putting 5 speed drivers at a disadvantage I can see that, but all 5 speed cars will have the same disadvantage. You could then make it an Auto vs 5 speed thing, but how many Autos run outside of Q16?

It's obvious at this point that no matter what is explained that some of you, especially Leon, isn't going to get it. Must be rocket science. Thank God I get it.

Poll is working just fine, as can be seen by the results!

Funny you should use this euphemism, considering that I am an engineer for world’s largest missile producer…

But ask yourself this question, why are all these guys, who have been some of the most hard core shootout racers are unhappy with this change? Do you really not understand where we are coming from?

Will a sportsman/full tree appeal to less serious racers? Yes (be it for the WRONG reason!!!). But that was the case in the 90’s. Yet, you making this change now, on 19th Shootout! Why mess with it now?

And lets not use automatics as an excuse, most of them are in the Quick class, which is keeping the Pro Tree (lucky bastards )

All of those EVO’s, who blow past the courtesy staging and immediately get on a stutterboxes will continue to do it and their time on the stutterbost will only get longer...

After meeting with Bill Bader today I have decided to leave the event run the way it has for 18 years. The racers are going to need to learn to race and the track is going to work at holding them up so they don't stage so fast.

    Throw a party Leon!!!! Hahahah

Well that is GREAT news. I think you 100% made the right decision. I'm glad that you and the track agreed that this was the way to go in the end. As far the guys who aren't familiar with the Pro tree. It's this simple. If ANYTHING lights below the 2 staging bulbs, GO! You aren't going to redlight, don't worry.

Plan to see many of us back in Ohio next year Dave. The New England guys that did well this year were not the usual suspects. Though we were really happy for those guys for holding the fort! A few of the regulars including Kevin Jewer, myself, and Mike Rizzotti had bad luck at the SO. But those two came back home and ran bests right out of the gate. Where are we holding the party next year? Here's looking to SO 2011.

I wanted to mention too, it seemed the small frame turbo was a huge hit this year. Right? Curious to hear your thoughts for next year Dave.

DST class will remain next year, good turn out for it.

I think after much thought and discussion with Bill the Pro tree is best left alone.

You guys stop back by the forums though for the next poll, I should get time to post it tonight.
