Default 18th Annual DSM/EVO Shootout results thread

Yet another year has come and gone and the biggest Shootout to date is now a part of history.

The weather forecast really stunk this year. It went from a 30% chance to a 70% chance rain. We got a real small shower during the dyno competition on Saturday and it was late enough in the day it didn't effect anything. Sunday the weather prediction was really bad........man do I want a job where I can constantly be wrong and keep my job. It was beautiful all day long. Not a drop of rain, hot as hell with a slight breeze. The race was over for atleast an hour before a brief down pour came through and then was gone.

The attendance was way up from last year. The best growth we've seen in a single year in quite some time. Official count was:

    2017 spectators
    205 Racers

    Very nice!

This year for me will be remembered for a few reasons. Here is my list:

    1. The year the autocross came back to the shootout.
    2. The year I made my first ever 10 second pass in an AWD or a 5 speed!!!
    3. The year of the race car.

The weekend was started off with the car show/dyno competition at Buschur Racing. Once again the streets through town were closed off for the huge crowd that showed up. This years crowd was even larger than in the past and I'd give an honest estimate of 1,000 or more people being here in town. It's quite rediculous, in a good way! We had food vendors/pizza on hand and the highest horsepower cars as a whole that we've ever seen.

The Stock appearing turbo Dyno King was Chris Young with his EVO9 and 554 whp.
The Non stock appearing turbo Dyno Kind was given to Mike Reichen with his EVO2 and 941 whp.

Mike Reichen's 941 whp was also the highest number we've ever had made on our dyno by any car.

Just out of curiousity I took all the cars dyno'd and added up their horsepower and divided it out to see the average, average of all the cars dyno'd worked out to 525 whp. That is a strong field of cars. We dyno'd 20 cars Saturday.

This year we added a class called Max Effort. This class had 4 sub divisions which were divided into DSM/Mitsubishi powered cars on street and race tires and a class for EVO's on street/race tires. This was also the first year since 2002 that I personally competed in the shootout and I really enjoyed it. I was in the Max Effort E/Race class. 4th place with the BadBish in the autocross and I made my first ever 10 second AWD/5 Speed pass running a 10.5 and 10.4 on low boost.

The winners were awarded a nice plaque (Made in the USA) and $250 for 1st, $100 for runner up and $50 for semi finals.
CBRD also awarded a radiator to Evo Eliminator.
Gills Tees awarded a T shirt to 1st Place in Quick, EE, ESA, DSE.

Here are the winners for the Max Effort and their combined time/autocross time/drag time:

Can you tell us about some of the fastest drag runs and auto-x times/cars?

Can I put in a request for next year -- How about some announcers that know a god damn thing... I heard so much dumb shit come out of their mouths it made my head hurt.

1 - The vast majority of these cars are fwd, or rwd. -------Uh..? someone ... any one?
2 - Lengthy life stories or random tangents about the announcers life --- I know you dont like dead air... but we dont wanna hear you get your gab on... play music.
3 - Evo 7s are made up until 03, and an 06 evo is an evo8. ---.. *shakes head*
4 - My life was saved by an eagle talon --- Thats great.. let us race and shutup.

And a whole slew of other things I heard the crowd complaining about... If your gonna gab non stop... at least have a clue.

....... Ill post up my pics later tonight.. got quite a few.

    other dumbass announcer quotes:
"these cars pop like that when they shift because their all running nitrous and when you let off the throttle it builds up in the exhaust"

"my daughter had a talon with a button on the center console that turned on the turbo"

Thanks for putting on a great event as always Dave. This was the 5th shootout I have been too and the only one that my car has made it to. And that auto-x course was tight as hell and tiring as hell to wrestle a de-powered steering rack through that course was a workout.

That is a little bit inaccurate.

Ryan ran the 11.1 @ 127 and was the winner not runner up.

I had an amazing time at this year's event.. Definately one of the largest shootouts in the history of me attending it.

Just one more correction, the 1st Place winners also received a free T-shirt from www.GillTees.com

The shootout always lands on my birthday and it's always a pleasure to spend it in Ohio with my racing friends. See you all next year.

For those who know me and didn't see me, my girlfriend and I got engaged this past weekend during the Shootout.

She's had 2 1g's, and loves Mitsubishi...and obviously I love Mitsubishi and have had a few 1g's, as well...so the idea of getting engaged at the Shootout was a easy idea to come up with. lol

I personally enjoyed the lesson on how turbo cars work. "The turbo compresses the air and then sends it through a cooler"..........What kind of cooler would that be?? Igloo, Rubbermaid, Coleman?? lol

I made a comment Sunday morning as soon as I heard who was announcing. That specific announcer says just about the same exact ignorant crap at both of our events every year. Its like having the writer from Fast & Furious on the mic all day. Hes Ricer-ific!

I wish Bill Bader Jr. himself would do it. He does alot of events & does so with knowledge, energy and knows how to get the crowd pumped up.

I had a problem with all the NON-Dsm or EVOs running down the track. Freakin' Hondas??? This was the first year I saw cars running that weren't Mitsu related in anyway. The announcers were funny more than anything, just ignored them after awhile. But walking through the staging lanes and seeing 5 or 6 Hondas, well that was shocking to say the least.

I've still got to pull my pics off the camera and post some up. I have some of the auto-x too. It was a very technical course, even moreso than the ones they run here except it was longer.
