I tested the E85 from Krogers in Finneytown. I may try the Meijer in Middletown too.

That tester works OK, but you can not go by the scale on the side as it is... you notice that you now have a drop in over all level of the fluid in the test tube? That is because when mixing water and ethanol the mixture takes up less volume than either part alone take up. 100ml of water added to 100ml of ethanol results in a 192ml of 50% mix. What you actually need to measure is the amount of gasoline (top layer) and subtract that from the total volume. It is hard to tell in your picture, but it looks like you have around 2% drop in level, and it looks like around 82 or 83 % ethanol by the scale on the side of the tester, you are actually getting almost pure E-85, not E-82 or E 83. It also looks like the volume of gasoline extends from around the 83% mark up to the 98% mark... about 15% gasoline confirming that this is almost pure E-85.

I ordered a set of 6 graduated 15ml test tubes (with caps) for $2.25 from a chemistry supply place. They will be here in a few days, and I can't wait!

This is a helpful link when trying to get an idea of what blends to expect based on the time of year.

Don't ask a stupid question if you don't want a sarcastic reply.

My results for the local station (jiffy mart) selling E-85 show pure summer blend E-85. A couple drops of food coloring in the water make is very easy to judge the volume of gasoline floating on top of the green water/ethanol mix!
