Default when to get tuned on e85.

so i have everything i want parts wise before my tune for the season. but from what i have found out oio does not make the switch back to e85 from e70 until may and even june in some parts. i really dont wanna wait that long to get tuned. how much of an affect will being tunes on e70 be? will that be worse than a 93 tune? i 100% have my heart set on e85 but i really was looking to get tuned towards the end of march/beginnging of apirl. what do you guys think? and dave is handling my tune so if he could chime in with what he feels that would be good too.

you will be fine. Big power can be made even with E70. E70 has higher octane content than 93. It'd actually make the switch from E70 to E85 A LOT easier than switching from 93 to E85.
once tuned on the E70, just slight adjustments to your AFR/timing can be made to accommodate the 85. Hell, you could also do the Tephra switch to enable map switching and can alternate which map to use depending on if you are E70 or E85, from inside your cabin.

so from everything i have found the minimum octane rating of 105 posted on the pumps is pertaining to winter blend e70. which is still an arm and a leg over 93. so i guess my biggest question is will i see a huge difference when they switch it back to e85 for the summer? as in will my tune be screwed?

There is a very noticable difference in E70 to E85 when tuning, fuel requirements and maximum timing. I'd highly recommend getting a meter so you know what you are getting. Then there is the problem of mixing the fuel from one station to the next as some are very slow to switch back over to E85. Zeitronix sells a simple gauge with a sensor that installs in the return line. If I were buying E85 from standard stations I'd use one.

I just bought one of these to test the E85 at my local gas station.

I plan on buying gas 30-55 gallons at a time, so I will use this tester before filling up and if its E85, I'll buy it.

That is a handy little device. I may have to pick one up myself.

Yea, the only thing i don't like about the tester is its a sticker, not actually silk screened on to the tube. I plan on getting a little bit of E85 from my local gas station just to see how it works. I'll do a write up on here this week.

I live by Kings Island but my girlfriend lives in Miamisburg, so I frequent the Dayton area a little bit.

^^That write up would be good. I use the same station for the most part and it would be a handy little device. I know from what David told me that the station I get mine from was way different than the one down the road from the shop...

No, but the new setup will be on it primarily. Hoping to break 700whp on BR's dyno.

700 on BR dyno.... damn. I'm going to take mine up there once it gets a little nicer outside and after i get done tuning it temp here so all he has to do is fine tune fuel/timing map on his dyno. my goal is 550. 700 is going to be insane.

I'm waiting on getting the motor back this weekend. Hopefully the car will be tuned by the end of March. Not sure if the local gas station will have E70 or E85. That's why I have the tester!!

very nice! Where are you from and where did you get your gas? I did the same thing over the weekend and it showed about 75% ethanol.
