Default New Recall on the Evo X "Front Airbag Sensors"

Well I got a new Recall notice in the mail the other day thought I would share it with you guys in case you haven't heard. Especially those of you driving the Evo X in the winter.

This is word for word from the recall notice.

    Reason For Notice:

Mitsubishi Motors North America, Inc. (MMNA) has determined that a defect relating to vehicle safety exists in the vehicles listed. (Models: 2008-2009 Lancer, 2008-2009 Lancer Evolution.) Specifically, in areas where heavy road salt is used in the winter, a long term exposure to a mixture of melted snow with salt thrown up by the other vehicles on the road may cause a water-salt mixture to adhere to the front impact sensors. This coating over time may cause corrosion of the sensor and result in a crack in the sensor case which could allow water into the sensor and a short-circuit of the sensor. In the event of a vehicle collision of the type that would deploy the airbags this type of short-circuit may cause a delay in the deployment of the airbags which could result in driver or passenger injury.

    What You Should Do:

Please contact your Authorized Mitsubishi Dealer and schedule an appointment to have new counter measure sensors installed on your vehicle, free of charge. When you bring your vehicle in, please show the dealer this letter.(If you misplace this letter, the dealer will still make this repair to your vehicle, free of charge.)

    What The Dealer Will Do:

The dealership will install new front airbag sensors that have improved corrosion resistance.

    How long will this take?:

The time needed for this repair is approximately 45 minutes. The dealer may need your vehicle for a longer period of time due to service scheduling issues, but every effort will be made to minimize your inconvenience.

Im sure most of us here including me hope to never have the situation come up to even use our airbags!! Also me personally I store my car for the winter, but come spring time I will be taking my car to the dealership to swap out the sensors just to be on the safe side!

I got one last week too but assumed it was for the fuel line again, I didn't even read it! I bet it was for this. Thanks for the heads up.

So what kind of parts do they trear into for this front airbag sensor(s)? I can ask the dealer but if anyone knows offhand I would want to make sure they don't tear up my brake ducts when taking off the front clip.

Not sure on all the parts they will have to remove. I would say can't really be too involved seems how they say it will only take them 45 mins.

If its a cool dealer you take your car to they may ask about the ducting to put it back the way you had it. Then again they may just fudge it and you will have to do some minor tweaking

No prob dave, I also have the fuel line recall along with the hood latch cable.... Ill probably just schedule them all at the same time in the spring. Also gonna ask about the replacement fuel pump relay but no problems from the stocker yet!
