    Default David Buschur's Shelby GT

Here's a picture of my 2008 Shelby GT.

The Shelby GT is built by Shelby in Vegas and started as a standard GT Mustang with the 4.6, 3 valve engine. The car gets the stripe kit, hood scoop, grille, some Shelby badging, Shelby floor mats, signed Carroll Shelby dash plaque with the car number on it. Hurst shifter, Ford Racing cold air package, Shelby hood pins, Ford Racing struts/springs/sway bars/mufflers/x-pipe.

I have to admit, I think the new style Mustangs are some of the best looking cars on the road. I love the styling. After breaking my neck to look at a bunch of them I'd pass by my wonder wife, Renee, told me, "Why don't you just go buy one!" I asked, "Buy what?" She said, "A freaking Mustang, you look at them everytime one goes by." So the search began, I looked at this car on the lot 3 times over about 6 months time. Price was too high. They finally decided they couldn't sell it and dropped the price down substantially and I called for a test drive. I was hoping to hate the car so I wouldn't buy it. We left the lot, I drove it normally. On the way back I asked the salesman if he minded if I romped on it. He said, "No I don't mind, just don't smoke the tires." I left the stop sign, stuck it to the wood, slammed it into 2nd where it left a decent patch of rubber. I smiled and bought the car. After about a year, I decided it wasn't fast enough. It was OK, I think they run 13.3's or so stock. It of course wasn't enough.

I planned to put a turbo on it and started getting parts together. About the time I was finally ready to start building the kit I went on line to do some reading and found that Whipple had released a new supercharger that would put the power up to the limit of the stock engine, which is about 550 flywheel HP. It made no sense to build a turbo kit, have lag and be at the limit, so supercharger it was.

I bought and installed, by myself, the Whipple 550 HO kit. The kit includes, 34# injectors, twin fuel pumps, Whipple 550 supercharger, liquid intercooler and the tune.

The install went perfectly. The tune is flawless. The power is excellent. I have absolutely nothing negative to say about it. The car is quiet, all stock exhaust and cats, all sound deadening etc. I only run 93 octane in it, the car puts out 11.xx psi of boost.

I ran the car in complete stock form plus the Whipple kit and ran a best of 12.53 at 118.xx mph, traction limited would be an understatement. I then mounted up some M/T Drag Radials on the stock wheels and went back. 12.003 at 120.66 mph Definetely an 11 second car and definetely respectable times.

The car stock made 239 whp on our dyno and after the Whipple put down 396 whp.

I almost forgot, since this picture was taken I also added the GT500 Brembo brakes to the car.

    Thanks for looking.

I heard a rumor that Ford was coming out with a factory turbo'd Mustang!

BTW Yes David's GT is a killer car and nice paint scheme too.

They really are great looking cars. Didn't picture something like that as your personal car, Dave. Good stuff.

Car looks good. Still wish you would have put a turbo on it but I understand.

Thanks guys. I had a LOT of cars over the last 5 years, at one time I think 15. I had a bunch of cool old stuff that was all NA, nothing fitting for these forums but cool stuff. I sold everything, you can only enjoy so many cars. Now I'm down to the Shelby and two EVO's for fun stuff. I don't drive this one much, only because I'd rather keep it perfect and enjoy it that way. I think it's got 1200 miles on it right now! haha

That's a nice stang David. I've heard about your Shelby, but that's the first time i've seen it. Definitely a beautiful machine.

My buddy has a '07 GT that I got to drive for 10 days last spring when I was visiting him out in Los Angeles. I really like the cars. Hate the drive-by-wire, though!

    Beautiful car David!

What I like about aftermarket superchargers is the noise! There is a guy by my house who drives a tricked out Gt with exhausts, supercharger, spoilers in white and the car sounds amazing!

This car is so quiet it's hard to hear the blower, I expected a lot more noise but it's QUIET! Not like the GT500's those make a lot of noise and do sound freaking cool.

The drive by wire in this car, you can't even tell it's there, closest feel I've ever had to a cable. Very good job on however they did it.

I see so many Shelbys out here in Vegas. Many have Shelby plates and aren't customer owned cars. I often send David messages on what I just saw or ask him what model is that? See names on the rockers that I don't recognize. Do see a lot of GT500's rolling around. Along with quite a few Roush models. A Roush 427 is in my sub. Another Tracpac is in the sub across the road. Now that the Camaro is out a lot of SS's are seen about. They just don't look as good as the Fords. As much as I hate to say it having never owned a Ford. Its a safe bet to say they do have some of the better cars and trucks on the road today. They listen to the consumer and get it done into production.

Now keep the miles down Dave. Geez. You got more miles than all three of my EVOs combined. And a 1/3 of of the miles of my original Syclone.

Springs coming and I got hit with the mod-bug hard!

I spent this weekend working at my home garage on the Shelby.

I installed a Ford Racing rear end cover/girdle and a 3.5" one piece Dynotech driveshaft. Weight savings on the shaft is about 20 pounds, so very nice. The stock one is a heavy BRICK!!

After I got done with that I realized I was working in a dungeon and installed (4) 8' flourescent lights in the garage and went back to work.

I pull the cats off the car and am getting ready to take the exhaust manifolds off. I bought some nice used one's, Ted ported them for me and they are being ceramic coated now. I'd like to build some offroad pipes for the car and put it all back together at once.

I also will be installing some Vista Blue, Tirado coated valve covers on it as soon as they come in.

I can't wait to run the car again, it's a great car, great fun.

I didn't want the GT500, I liked the looks of mine better, it's a mid 13 second car when I bought it. For sure not impressive. NOW though, after the supercharger, it's a different story and I'm glad I bought it, I was glad before the supercharger for that matter. I've had it to the 1/4 mile about 3 times, each time there were other GT500's there and each time I've been quicker than they were, even modified. 12.0's at 120 mph is pretty respectable now.
