    Default 2005 evo 8 P0300 question

I have been battling a problem with my car since i bought it over 3 years ago. I put some mods on the car clutch,intercooler,intake,o2 housing, full exhaust, fuel pump, and tune. First tune was done by mellon tuning the problem was the car felt like it was missing something and the two step would not activate no matter what chris played with. So I decided to bring the car to Al @ dynoflash where the car actually shut down on the dyno because of a blown fuse which has blown 2 times fuse 8 in the panel under the hood but thats another story anyway the car basically feels like its been missing and the 2 step never activated and no check engine lights to help show whats going on, still under warranty i brought the car to my dealer and they check out the car and the clutch switch and wheel sensors everything they thought had to do with the two step. I brought the car to e-town one more time and the car started to break up no matter what I did and wouldn't rev past the stock limiter even though its been modified. I brought the car home and parked it, the next time I drove it the car ran ok did a few pulls, parked it, then i took it out again and it broke up even more and then finally a check engine light came on so i parked it in anger. So yesterday I finally hooked it up to my computer and found that it has a random misfire code P0300. Anyone else have a problem with this? do you think it could be the coil packs? I am just looking for some input I have changed the plugs many times. would this have anything to do with the two step not activating as well. Thanks for any help-JOEYD

Turning off the P0300 code is easy to do. Do you have the newest version of ECUflash downloaded? Your car sounds like it is setting the code for a reason though, so just turning off the CEL is not going to help matters.

You could very well have a problem with the stock coils, plug wires, bad cam sensor or the actual cam trigger could be loose in the end of the cam. Of course it could be a number of other problems. What is the ROM ID for the ROM you are using?

What gap are your plugs set at? Also if you send the rom to me, I can check it out... cooterkisser@gmail.com I am assuming you are still on the stock 05 VIII rom (96940011) which I have dealt with for the past few years...

the car was tuned by al when my car shut down on the dyno it was not done so the car is all messed up. I need to get the issue fixed with it. You ill see the rom is completely messed up because it was messed with and never corrected entirely on the dyno. So i am sure the rom as something to do with the misfire but also the car had a problem falling flat on its face before so I am thinking there is a spark issue with the car. The only thing I havent looked into are the coil packs. If you can send me another completely stock 05 viii rom that would be great since the computer I had my stock one saved on crapped out. -JOEYD

well theres 2 very easy solutions to your problem. Drive/Tow the car to Buschur or AWD Motorsports and have the masters, trouble shoot the car till they find the problem

Only issue that will arise from this solution is,

    1. its a road trip
    2. Your gonna have alot of downtime

but in the end your car will come out of either shop fixed and working correctly.

I know Mike@AWD has fixed miracles on my once frankenstein car

yeah the down time isn't a problem my car is stored in the garage and i never drive it. 2005 with under 20,000 miles. I should have left the car with pruven performance when it shut down on the dyno they said they have been able to fix cars in bad shape. But my car isn't molested and its very clean so the wiring issue is something i assume was from the factory they of course could never figure it out when my car was under warranty. The only time my car will be going to buschur racing is for a full build ;-) which may be a while.

Which one is fuse number 8?

Have you replaced the spark plugs? Set gap to .022-.024 depending on boost levels. Did you ever try replacing the clutch switch? With 20k miles I would highly doubt its coils but maybe one is defective. Maybe try swapping with a friend that you know for sure works.

When ya call out fake tuners ya get banned on the other sites, here ya can speak your mind and not worry about people crying to mods because its true. Highboost FTW

I'm no ECU flash expert but is the OP still having issues with your map? I might be able to help.

If it is an older dynoflash tune it is most likely locked, and you may need to pull the rom off with ecu unlocker...

The map was never locked since the flash was never finsihed. The problem was nothing to do with any of the tuners it originated from something from the factory. I am wondering since now I have finally gotten a check engine light for a random misfire I am wondering if its something with the coil packs. Plugs have been changed and everything. My two step never would activate the clutch switch activates and all the wheel speed sensors check out so....something else has to be up!-JOEYD

You may actually want to try opening the rom with ecu unlocker anyway as sometimes it will recover the whole rom...

Joseph, I still have a copy of your stock ROM and went through it again, looks pretty normal for what it's worth, let me know if you'd like for me to send it to you. my email is chris@mellontuning.com
