Default HOW TO: Buschur Racing Double pumper

    Good evening

I recently installed the double pumper in my evo and I figured I would share the install with you .

I picked the buschur racing double pumper system because I feel that it is the best solution for those requiring more fuel for the following reasons.

    1) utilizes stock lines No AN lines required
    2) supports over 700 HP worth of fuel
    3) simplicity of install
    4) high quality parts. ( the machined wye fittings , machined housing)
    5) price

Nicely packaged. Dave ensures that each assembly is primed and in working order prior to shipping, this is the reason for the zip lock bags, so that fuel does not spill out during shipping ( you can tell that buschur racing has put some thought into this product.)

    the pump housing

    the fuel filter and lines

    let us begin the install,
the fuel pump housing is located under the rear driver side seat, once the seat has been removed, take out the 4 screws for the access panel
this is what the stock housing looks like

    From left to right
the first line is the loop line from the passenger side of the tank, then electrical connection, the rubber line is the return line, and then lastly the fuel supply that goes to the rail

next remove the 8mm nuts , so that the stock housing and ring can be removed
here is a shot of the gas tank without the stock pump housing

    the stock pump housing

here are some shots of what the buschur housing looks like the two brass barbs are now your supply points from each 255

    The twins

Now install your float mechanism ( it merely snaps in), also install the rubber gasket to the new housing,

IMPORTANT: make sure you install the siphon h tube , this piece the longer leg of the h goes on the return line side, if you don't install this piece, you will get low fuel pressure.

lower the housing into the tank, gently bend the socks and make sure you don't bend your float assembly...

the line that I have in my hand is the stock supply line, this can be removed

next place the ring onto the housing, this takes a little effort , don't get frustrated, have a beer if you don't get it around the fittings the first time, it seemed to help me .. attach the black wire to ground, this is the grounding wire for the secondary pump. I used the Ring.

Now we have to fish the Y lines to the under side of the car
In the picture below you can kind of see it, make sure you tap the end of the line, so as not to get dirt in there

and a better shot of the rubber line

    now attach your fuel filter

In the picture above you can see the stock rubber line, this is the stock fuel return line.
Remove this piece the one in the picture below, this was the stock fuel supply line, the fuel filter will now sit in this location.

attach the other end of the filter to hard line, make sure that you have one high compression clamp on each side of the ridge in the hard line

attach the y lines to the barb fittings, the longer one goes to the secondary pump

I then drilled a hole in the access panel to run the red wire to the hobbs switch..

The hobbs switch in the engine bay , is placed to 12v source and T it into a vacuum line.

    Thats it for the intall.
Now I had previously not installed the h Section, this is what the pressure was at idle, only 30 psi.. make sure that it is placed in there FUEL pressure gauge is on the left

now I think that because I did not install this piece, I could have damaged the primary pump
so I replaced the primary pump with an extra 255 ( 342 series) that I had
a picture of the clamps from buschur, man those things are on there tight...

    another shot

a picture of the other 255 that I installed with a high compression clamp

here are some videos of what your fuel pressure will be when it is working correctly
    40 psi at idle

    cruising around no boost

when the second pump kicks on instant 75 psi of fuel pressure

    REVIEW OF THE SYSTEM
Something that I really have to say about the buschur double pumper is that you just have to marvel at its simplicity. It is one of those products that comes out, that when you see it, you are like " why didn't I think of making something like that". Also you really can not complain about its performance, I think Dave has gone as fast as 159 mph in quarter in his RS with this system. The price of this unit, is fantastic as well. I really think that if you tried to make something like this, it would probably cost you more than what dave is charging for these units. So in summation, great/relatively cheap product that has the performance of a race inspired piece.

thats it folks , hope you enjoyed the install
    more to come as always...

Great write up! Very detailed, just the way I like them. You should go back and sand down the bolt area where you have your ground. Always safer that way.

    Nice writeup.

    Small addition:

For the Ground wire with the ring terminal, it is better to route it also through the cover plate and make an "new" grounding point at the Cars sheet metal below the seat. ( beside that cover plate )

Reason: on some older cars, I found that the Gas tank itself doesn't have an good ground due to corrosion of its mounting points.
Since the Pump is having a high amp rating, that can become an issue also @ WOT

It is an venturi pump, used to get the fuel from the right side of the fuel tank to the pumps side
It has to be the stock one, no replacement for that part.

Ok, so we can assume the ground is OK

How fast ( cold car in the morning , then start) will the Fuel hose heat up? seconds, minutes... after half an hour?
Is it only the hose at the Unit or also the fuel hose part under the car?
