Just remember that the stock ECU wont limit the power you can make, the limit will always be the hardware. Even before the bigmaps came out (V7) the stock dimension maps had/have enough we can make it work. My recent dyno numbers were all on the ROM that came with the car. I will be switching to v7 for the IX finally...we were beta'ing it when I started my build. The big map resolution on timing really helps being able to get the smoothest powerband possible. Going down track without some of the neat features of standalones might be a little more complicated, but I think even then we'll be okay

I agree, the only thing restricting the power the car can make on the stock ECU is the MAF sensor, once it's gone the stock ECU will make as much power as any other. It's AFR and timing. My car on the stock ECU back in 2002 in a DSM with nothing but fuel cut limits and rev limits removed and an HKS VPC to get rid of the MAF ran 7.8's at 174 mph. With the control and features of the EVO ECU now there is no limit on the power you can make with it. Give it time and the glitches will get worked out of it too. There are too many good people working on it, constantly.

Ive been a member on this forum long before there even was EVOM or the EVO on these shores. I used to be active years ago in the DSM forum but I broke trannies in it and the EVO kept getn quicker. I had to decide to keep dumping money in my DSM to drag race it or make my EVO a bad ass street car. I think I made the right choice. But kinda lost interest in my 93 TSi.

I also want to try V7 BUT dont think I want to go to 9635. I tried it before on the MAF and the car did not take well to it. Every table I had access to in 9417 I copied of to 9635 and had idle problem and stalling. I tried adjusting the BISS and ended up leaving it where it was and just going back to 9417. All I want at thsi point is BIG MAP and a lil more defined start up and post start maps that affect things til full temp.
A lil birdie told me there may be a V7 9417 rom in the future.

Well I decided to try 96533706 and 96531706. I hope to try them this weekend. I have all the Roms set up already. Just need to try it again.

I also noticed when copying maps over is that some of the F9A and FAA bits are not exactly the same as 9417. I plan to expeirment this weekend and try to make 9653 work on the car. If not then I pray tha your right. The main resaon why I made the change was the scaling factor for transion load map just released. I wasnt gonna try just for big map. I had enough resolution to run 33 psi on pump gas and make plenty of power and it didnt leave anything on the table power wise scaled to 440.

This will also be my first try of 9653 on SD. Maybe that will help some too.

    94170015 to 9653XXX6 isn't that hard.

I'm still not sure why people are that resistant.
If you have the knowledge to properly tune the car, going over to 9653XXX6 should not be an issue at all.

One small thing though, I tried to migrate over to 96533706 and it was one additional issue that did make things kind of frustrating. Going directly over to 96531706 would be my suggestion, unless you have used the live tune stuff before.
