Default Stock ECU SD, pump 93, HTA, BR built long block

So on Tuesday afternoon I took my car up to CBRD to try to finish dialing in my SD patched 94170025 V5.10 ROM.

I had to engine redone by Buschur back in June when it made 474 smoothed and 480 unsmoothed back in June thru a stock MAF a 4-3" reducer coupling at around 30 ish psi. David made a thread about it then so it should still be on here.

Id been driving the car through the summer and enjoying it ever since. I took the car to a DJ and it picked up about 11-12%. Still wanting more I decided to give the SD patch a try with a straight 4" intake a huge K&N 9x6x4 filter. I got a MSD/GM style IAT/MAT sensor welded to my UICP and an Omni 4Bar in the plenum.

The car came out well in my opinion. I didnt want to run asmuch as boost as I ran it up to but it was knock free at that timing. If I added one degree above 6K I would start to see a couple knock counts at even 2 less psi! The car held out knock free at 33 psi on straight pump Shell 93 Oct.

    Final numbers were.

    531 unfiltered 525 filtered 33 psi

    Mods of the car:

BR Drop in JE/Crower set up
    BR Stage 3 head
    BR BF272 cams
    BR ported IM/TB
    BR COP
BR Race FMIC with pipes, Crushed and Sealed 1G BOV
    BR/Shearer Tubular 82mm HTA turbo kit in a .63 5 bolt housing.
FP 4" cast aluminium intake pipe with 9x6x4 K&N Filter
    PTE 1000cc Injectors
    BR Double Pumper
    Omni 4Bar
    MSD/GM IAT/MAT sensor
    Exedy Twin HD
Greddy Racing Full Ti 80 mm exhaust, No cat

I have to a say a HUGE thanks to Buschur Racing for the engine work, The ECUFlash Forum and the MANY MANY people envolved over there to make the car possible the way it is! CBRD for the Dyno Rental. And all my DSMs over the years for taking the beating to make me love my Evo the way I do and not turn it into a POS hacked up cars that some turn into. I flipped 37K miles on my way home from CBRD. And has everything that came in from the factory A/C etc.

Having problems getting the graph up. Im working on it Sorry!

hell yea...nice job on stock ECU! Did you tune it or have CBRD do it?

Put the .82ar hotside on and pick up a little more power!

Nice job! When we spoke before, I thought you were tuning on 100 octane. I'm really impressed now that you made that on pump!

    Nice Job!

I agree with slorice, throw the .82 housing on there or do you have the 5 bolt o2 housing?

Great #'s for the stock ecu on their dyno.

Very nice. The car gained some nice power. CBRD'd dyno and ours read about the same so those are some nice improvements!

Enjoy the car, thanks for bringing it to us.

I did the tuning. BUT David did the original tune on the car when it was still on the MAF. I had to change a good bit in the fueling department. I did a good of changing to the timing table the David had in the car to make it log the same. Mainly because you hit different load cells and have less load taper in SD then when running a MAF.

I mean I didnt really tune. Just really readjusted Davids tune to make the car run the same timing as it was before minus a degree or two. Then run a lil more boost and watch the knock sensor and AFR.

I mean BR did 90% of what the car still is today. All I did was change to a full 4" intake and filter, ditch the MAF, swap to adrop in 4 BAR MAP. then spend Hours in ECUFLASH and Evoscan XML then logging.

The big thanks is to BUSCHUR RACING.

PS I posted the graph on EVOM (dispite the fact of all the BS over there} I tried to do the same thing here and get an error while loading that I dont get over there.

I understand your desire not to take credit for Dave's original tune, but the work you've done is extensive and deserves kudos. I've been there on the SD stuff. It's a pain in the neck to read through all of the EvoM threads in the first place and then dialing it in takes a lot of time running the car through all the load and RPM ranges. Until there are some really good base maps out there for a lot of set-ups, if I were a pro tuner I think I'd charge triple for SD!

As far as what you said about the load cells changing and having less taper up top, that's really a function of how you shape the SD MAP VE curve. Did you originally try to keep the MAF-style curve but then decide that it was better to keep closer to a 1:1 ratio up top? On my car, I kept it pretty close to the original curve, so my loads up top are much lower than my MAP kPa values, just like it was with the MAF. I guess I lose some resolution that way compared to you...hmmm...

I want to convert to the v7 tephra patch to get the "big maps" so that there is more resolution everywhere, but with that thread growing to ~1000 posts I'm not sure I'm up for learning all the glitches and issues.

Again, good job on your car.

When I can get back on EVOm I want to contact Tephra, mrfred, mrturco, jack of trades, etc. etc. and set up an ECUflash section over here. We are going to give each of those guys their own section if they want it and a sticky that they can take care of on their own. Keep the BS to a minimum so it doesn't take 10 days to sort through it all and get the information. I am going to do everything I can to make it easy for them to get their information out there. No charge of course.

If we could get an ECUFLASH forum over here I would barely even go to EVOM anymore. I never really liked the place. Everybody knows more then anybody else but has never actually done it themselves LOL.

Ive been a member on this forum long before there even was EVOM or the EVO on these shores. I used to be active years ago in the DSM forum but I broke trannies in it and the EVO kept getn quicker. I had to decide to keep dumping money in my DSM to drag race it or make my EVO a bad ass street car. I think I made the right choice. But kinda lost interest in my 93 TSi.

I also want to try V7 BUT dont think I want to go to 9635. I tried it before on the MAF and the car did not take well to it. Every table I had access to in 9417 I copied of to 9635 and had idle problem and stalling. I tried adjusting the BISS and ended up leaving it where it was and just going back to 9417. All I want at thsi point is BIG MAP and a lil more defined start up and post start maps that affect things til full temp.

I think it shouldnt be a problem on the 86. Should even be a good bit easier since you probably already have a .82 AR exhaust housing aswell as a 4mm larger compressor. The supporting mods mean ALOT on pump.

Post up a thread about it when ever you get it all together. Good luck!

Don't get discouraged switching to the V7 93650706 rom guys, yes there are some minor differences between the 94170015 rom but it is not that big of a deal getting it to run correctly...

Is the switch from 96530006 to 706 a seamless one? That's what I'm looking at.

Personally Im content with v5.10 and 94170015. The ONLY feature that would come in handy off of 96531706 would be Big Map. The thing about it is with the SD patch you can simulate load however you like between MAP sensor calibration and RPM VE. I mean I could max out my 4 BAR at 43 psi and never go above 200 load if I liked. So there really isnt that much need for added resolution unless your rescaling of the axis tables isnt up to bar. Then MAF smoothing and compensation act like a VE curve for fuel that doesnt effect load. I think theres enough there to dial a car in properly already.

I just couldnt see changing ROM IDs again since I came from a 96420008 and have tried the 96530006 while still on the MAF and had stalling and idle issues after changing over all the tables that I had defined for both. Now at this point it would seem like alot of work to change everything over again. Maybe iim just getting lazy since its winter LOL.
