Default Buschur Racing begins R&D work on the "Deuce Coupe"

Yesterday morning as soon as I got to the shop we strapped the car down on the dyno to get a good baseline pull on the car before we did anything.

Stock numbers on our load bearing Mustang AWD 500 series dyno with a 4th gear pull came out as 175whp / 189ft trq. Many of you may not know but our dyno typically reads lower than many other dyno's you will find. Reason being is our dyno is a load bearing dyno which actually loads the car by weight to simulate real world driving conditions and is not just an empty roller spinning for a number. The Mustang dyno reads wheel horsepower.

As you will see the boost hit was a maximum of 14psi and @ 5200rpm and air/fuels that continually went richer as the pull went on.

With the base pull out of the way we decided the first mod would be a manual boost controller as it was fast and easy to install. The most boost seen on the dyno computer when monitoring it was 16.3. We couldnt even hit 17.5 before the car went into limp mode.

The gains with just a slight boost increase was pretty impressive.

When looking at the graph you will see that the max numbers achieved were only 7whp and 22ft. trq greater than stock but when you start to dissect the graph a bit more you start to see larger gains in there.

Such as at 3100 on up to 3700 there were gains in there as much as 22whp and 33ft trq.

For a more precise breakdown here is the dynosheet printed out and you will see the differences between stock and with just a MBC added.

We were able to get some log information from the car as well which I will prepare and post tomorrow.

    Dyno pull video.

With the base pull out of the way we pulled the car off of the dyno to begin working on some products.

The first item on the agenda was an air intake. Here is the prototype intake kit. It does allow the stock scoop to be retained while providing fresh air straight to the filter while the filter being protected from extra engine bay heat by our filter shield. We have not been able to get the car back on the dyno as this week has been ridiculously busy here at the shop so far with no sign of letting up. We're still hammering on the Coupe though.

The next items that we started to look at was the intercooler and the intercooler piping. We are currently working on the prototype products for these and hope to have something to show you guys shortly. Here is what we found when we removed the tiny factory FMIC.

The third mod. You can never go wrong with a little vinyl horsepower!

As we leave the shop here tonight..... this is how she looks.

So, the turbo size must be similar to 2.0L 2002-04 WRX turbo's when just looking at power vs boost pressure (175whp at 14psi)? I was hoping the turbo was making the same power at less boost but it is what it is. The mid range improvement from an mbc is nice though. Sounds like stock turbo is going to be a nice torque for the low end goodness.

Cool on the intake already. Can't wait to see results with the new intercooler. Should make some power too. I hear that ams had some fitment issues getting a bigger IC in the frontend without removing the steel bumper reinforcement piece.

Thanks for the post and info!

    Edit:
Just watched the vid. Love the music choice. The car needs an exhaust bad man! Soo quiet! I was like "Is that it?" Didn't sound like it was done revving yet. ha ha

Here's what Beyond Redline had to say about their intercooler upgrade:

"We started out with a proven intercooler core we have been using in custom applications for the past year. Its 28W x 8H x 3.5D. Because of the size limitations in the front of the car this is as big as you can go without making structural modifications. We have utilized this core in numerous applications with HP levels north of 500WHP."

Curious to see what you guys come up with for intercooler.

I agree. Now that you've removed that "back scratcher" of a fmic, put something nasty on it! Looks like you'll gain 50 whp from that alone!

Cars are easier to work on when they are clean and new.

I wonder which shop will get the 2.0T in 11's first, AMSlow or Buschur Racing?

This car has a tiny turbo and small injectors. Kind of bummed. Makes the v6 look better, which is what Hyundai wanted anyway I'm sure. So much for their claim that the 2.0 is a tuner's dream or whatever. It's going to need bigger turbo, injectors. So much for the bolt on potential. I might as well get a used EVO 8, 9 or even 10. Hopefully aftermarket turbo's will be plentiful.
Haven't lost hope for what BR can do with this thing on stock turbo and injectors. I'm hoping for 300hp at the engine. We'll see. That's 255whp at 15% loss. Probably gonna need bigger intercooler, full exhaust, IC piping, intake, ecu and mbc.

The Evo X wasn't really doing anything exciting until bigger injectors and turbo were thrown on.

I wonder if the Evo X turbo is a direct bolt on for the Genesis??

    Well, that is relative.
    Stage 1 includes:
    * Buschur Racing Evo X 3" True Dual Catback Exhaust
    * Buschur Racing Evo X Air Filter Kit
    * Buschur Racing Carbon Fiber Air Filter Shield
    * Custom Dynoflash ECU Tune
    60whp
    Stage 2 includes:
*Buschur Racing 2 1/2" Upper IC Pipe,
    *2 1/2" Lower IC Pipe
    *3" Mass Air Pipe
    +10whp
100flyhp with pipes, filter, ecu flash. 400hp? Come on! That's a lot of power for $2300 in parts. No injectors, no new turbo, that's not even running much boost over stock.

just hold your horses.....the tune on this thing is junk for making power. Once they get into the ECU, it will make good power just like on the X.

I hope you're right FastRice. Having a 10 sec car I'll give you respect and agree. I'm just in speculation mode. But the size of the turbo is what it is, small. I hope you're right about the ecu. Having 88% throttle is not good either. I hope they can get it to hold boost to redline better, but that's what a small turbo does in the top end.

Sorry for my questions and speculations. It's jsut a result of being excited for this car and what the cheap mod potential is...

EDIT: Geez, SloRice has a 9.9 sec car. bow down I'll shut up now. Serious, I drive a 17 second Civic sedan with 120k miles on it. Instead of sheep jumping fences, I dream in EVO's with BR stages making blasts down the 1320.

The wee little 14b has went 10's. I wouldn't worry about the size of the GC's turbo.
