Default EVO X turbo upgrade and twin disc clutch.

Our EVO X has been sitting here for a few months now, untouched. I have not been happy with our development on the car and it was a very sore subject with me.

We were waiting on a GOOD clutch to come out as I will not install or run an ACT clutch in anything I own. Finally after some wait time Exedy released their twin disc for the car. As with the other Exedy products I couldn't be more impressed. Super smooth engagement, nice pedal feel and pressure and it makes the transmission shift like butter. We installed the twin cerametalic HD clutch. We will be stocking these of course. The pricing is $1850 for anyone needing a quality clutch.

Our EVO X, before the clutch started going completely out of the car, ran a best of 12.29 at 112 mph on the stock turbo on 93 octane.

I wanted to put a turbo upgrade on the car and go faster, of course with a slipping clutch there wasn't much sense in making more power.

Jarrod met Mike from Blouch Turbo at a few events and they hit it off pretty good. We were offered a new turbo to try on the car and Mike sent it out promptly after we agreed to test it.

Daniel and Steve finally got an opening to get our EVOX in here and got the clutch in and the new Dominator 2 turbo installed.

I am not able to do any tuning on the car yet but put it on the dyno anyway, figuring it would be safe. I was right, overly safe.

The car is hitting 27 psi, which is 2 psi less than I was running before and the AFR's are in the 10.2:1 range through the entire mid range of the turbo, even at these disadvantages the power/torque is way up!!

I am actually amazed at how good the car feels now. With a tune the car is going to be retarded fast. I'm guessing with the clutch and the power the car should easily run 11.50's or better on just 93 octane.

At the 300 hp stock turbo level, as I said we ran 12.29 at 112 mph. The car is now at 379 whp and 317 ft lbs of torque.

We will be stocking these turbos. Pricing will be $1450.

Below is the dyno graph, you will see we are obvoiusly not tuned yet and that there are huge gains waiting in the mid range.

about time! How do you all feel about this engine so far?
Will you try FP's red for the X too?
I'd rather drive a slow car fast, rather than a fast car slow.....

    Think about it!

I like the car, I like the engine and I am impressed with the power it just made for sure.

I had a prototype red on the car that I feel something was probably not quite right with it. It was not a production part. I've sent it back into FP to see if they can find out why the power wasn't where it could have been.

At what power level do you feel the aluminum block will need to be sleeved?

Hey Dave, What are you using to control boost the ECU or your MBC?? Also you said you can't tune yet I have heard both that AEM is coming out with something and that they aren't.... any word?? I seen a video that AL posted up about a pretty wicked IX using a Hydra EMS and you seemed interested about it in your posts... There is a company in Cali. I think that is trying a Hydra piggyback and having luck with but I think they decided to make it a standalone if or when they put it into production. Got any ideas what your gonna go with?? At any rate the numbers so far look interesting and can't wait to see the #'s once you can get a retune with AL.

No idea when the car is going to need sleeves. I think it's going to be a long time honestly. The engine in the car, is impressing me more and more.

Today I spent just over 6 hours on the dyno. I am tuning the car using the stock ECU, I have a manual boost controller on the car. The car is running 780 cc RC injetors.

I spent the day tuning the car from 14 psi to 25 psi. I'm running 93 octane that's been in the car since before August.

Power at 25 psi was 365'ish and 320'ish torque.

Monday we are putting cams in the car and then I'll be back on the dyno with it.

I don't know if I am going to pursue the stand alones for the car like I did on the EVO8-9's. This computer is very advanced and now that there is starting to be the ability to access it I think I am going to try to use the stock ECU as much as possible.

It's already running exceptional and I'm impressed with how well it runs on the 780 cc injectors.

Seems like this might be a good choice for me after I get out of school, thats if I dump my 8. Is the new engine basically an aluminum 4G63?

The boost is being controlled with one of our billet inline boost controllers.
