Default A poll for the 2nd Annual Buschur Racing Sport Compact Shootout, 2009

OK, the 2008, 1st Annual BR Sport Compact Shootout has come and gone and was a success. We will be doing this race again and working as hard as we can to make it GROW-GROW-GROW.

I am going to post a new poll. I have ideas of my own already. I would like to hear some input for 2009's race though.

    Default Thoughts from the boss;)

    Some of my own input.

I would like to get the IDRC involved in the race. I am good friend with Mike Ferrara the owner of DSport and IDRC. The cost of putting the IDRC race events on have risen to the point of being tough to do events. Bringing the IDRC into the event would bring some faster cars in and would also give the event some pre and post event coverage/advertisement.

I would also like to allow 6 cylinders and rotories into the event. The 6 cylinders would have to be over head cam designs, no pushrod engines.

I will also be allowing any and all vendors to participate in the event for just the price of admission to get into the gate. This should make for a large manufacturer midway.

My main goal is to grow this event into one of the largest, if not the largest Sport Compact events in the country.

For all of you on this board, spread the work, please send a link to this out to people you know and let's see this turn into the biggest and best Sport Compact Race in the country!

I feel the Sport Compact Racing is on a serious decline and the problem in my mind is too much politics, restrictions and other crap that goes on at the track.

I want to take this event back to "old school" like our DSM/EVO Shootout is, tons of fun, a general rule structure anyone can meet. That's racing.

I think the race was a lot of fun. But as I've seen on a lot of other car forums I'm on, it was definately Evo/DSM dominated....no surprise there though.

Here's a couple thoughts I've had since the shootout.

    1. I say allow any import to run...4 cylinder, 6 cylinder, etc. I think getting some of the big name Supra shops to come out would draw a good crowd.

    2. Get a couple other big name shops that deal with other cars involved. Yea, maybe from a monetary standpoint, maybe not. Going back to #1. I know Larry, the owner of Sound Performance, in Chicago as well as some of their employees. They make some badass Supras. I could make some phone calls there. Maybe talk to Titan Motorsports...they just sold one of their badass drag cars to some kid in Columbus. Hell talk to Don at Accelerated Performance in Toledo...they just finished Jamie's car and its AMAZING looking. Talk to P&L Motorsports in Chicago...I know the owners/tuner there too. They have a potentially bad ass STI drag car. Total Performance Racing here in Cincy has a pretty bad ass Civic drag car, but is having problems keeping the tranny intact. He didn't even know about the event when I went to buy Q16 from him for this race.

By getting these other shops involved it takes some of the marketing burden off your shoulders and puts it on them to get people in their car community to come to the event.

This has the potential to be a very badass event if marketed correctly and I really think getting some other big name shops involved is a step in the right direction.

    3. Talk to Mustang Dyno...have them bring out a portable 2wd dyno for the Saturday open house and take it to the track on Sunday too. I know a couple people there I can call too.

Just some thoughts I had...you can dismiss them as necessary.

we were posting at the same time and have some similiar thoughts.

On the IDRC thing...I guess I don't really know what it is....but I'm not caging my car...is that going to be a problem??

Ah Good ole IDRC. I like it. I did not know that Ferrara owned Dsport. Tim brings up a good point Dave. I dont have a problem with having some of the main safety rules in place, but is that the kind of stuff you are trying to avoid? I know you have gone some rounds with that in recent years. When you rent the track do the sanctioning body that they use rules not apply since it is not one of there races?

I think the midwest definately needs something like this. To see some decent sport compact dragracing you have to head to the coasts for the most part. I have been thinking that a sport compact race in Ohio, or Indy would be good cause, its easier for either coast racers to get to then the opposite coast. On top of that there are some heavy hitters in Indy, Louisville, Lexington, Chicago, Cleveland, Columbus, you wouldnt normally see at a race.

I dont have much input on actual racing as you have covered all that I was thinking. However Norwalk is good for making races a good show. You never see any wheelstanders, or jet cars at sport compact races. That could be cool. I know you actually have to pay them but if your going after the marketing hard core im sure somebody could sponsor that venture. This would be less feasible if the race wasnt lasting into the evening. Just an idea.

Is there a way you can set the poll up to where you dont have a member/log in to vote.

Looks live you can view the thread, but not vote. This would be good since myself and others will post this on other forums and Myspace etc.

I had some changes made to the forums lately to keep my problems elsewhere to a minimum. That is why you have to sign up. It only takes a few minutes and I don't think it should be a problem. If someone is too lazy to sign up here they probably aren't going to care how the event is run, in my opinion.

I am going to open this event up to any manufacturers/race teams that want to come out and make some exhibition runs or just set up a vendor stand, the only cost will be the price of admission to the event.

The general rules I do want to keep as simple as possible I am not interested in putting every car through a strict tech inspection.

I believe we can do this even if the IDRC gets involved with the program.

i think it would be nice to see some grand nationals and GMC typhoons / syclones in on the action. add v6 for sure. rotaries are always fun to watch go absolutely nowhere for all the noise they make
Mixes it up a little more though.
howbout change the sport compact shootout to the forced induction shootout.

id like to see the dot classes have tires that a person would use on the street, on a regular basis.
idrc, i dont mind, but wouldnt that constitute slightly tighter rules and more thorough tech inspections?
meaning that the person putting on the event, david, would be thrown for lack of a cage. things of this sort.

i voted idrc involvement. if you want to grow this into your goals, you need outside help. idrc has the marketing means to help make it happen. plus, nothing wrong with beating up on a few supras.
