    Default Made in the USA.....

First of all, I work on Mitsubishi's for a living. Company is based out of Japan. When I started though, the DSM's that I grew to love were built in Normal, IL and were about 65% US content. I don't care to be honest anyway.

IF-IF one of these bone head US automobile manufacturers would build an AWD turbo 4 cylinder car I'd be all over it. Instead we get FWD crap.

I buy USA products when I can but I don't honestly look for a "Made in the USA" label all the time.

However, last week I was watching a program on TV about China. That country needs to be stopped. I don't mind that they are growing, I don't care what they are doing to be honest. This particular TV show was on the horrible impact they are having on the environment though. There is NO regulations there for any type of pollution, the air in Los Angelas is bad, I've seen it on the news, looks like fog. The air in China was actually almost BROWN. They have this new damn, the 3 gorge hydro electric plant. It is huge. Extremeley polluted and some scientists feel it is so large it could actually tilt to the earth on it's axis. This pollution of course does not just stay in in and over their own country, it is going to effect everyone and they don't care.

Today I went Christmas shopping. I put the first gift in my cart, at Walmart, and noticed it was Made in China on it. I then looked around to find the same thing Made in the USA. I found it and put the first one back. I then went on a mission to buy all my Christmas presents Made in the USA. Some things are impossible to find.

Now, don't call me a two faced. I make my living working on Japanese cars and my EVO is my favorite car. I have put 2 times the initial cost of the car back into it though and 90% of that was Made in the USA

I guess my point is this. If we all take a little time to look for that "Made in the USA" label we'd have more jobs here and that effects everyone of us. If we can't what you want made here in the USA then you have to do what you have to do.

From now on though, personally, I am going to make an effort to buy as much as I can "Made in the USA".

I am going now to finish my Christmas shopping, online, somebody in the USA makes the other things I need and I am going to do some searching to try to find them. A little more effort but maybe someone will keep their job because of it. Maybe the plant that makes what I need here in the USA puts out an acceptable amount of pollution too.........

LIST OF COMPANIES I HAVE FOUND THAT ARE MADE IN THE USA AND I HAVE BOUGHT FROM:

    US MADE JEANS http://www.texasjeansusa.com/usa.html

    USA MADE SNEAKERS http://www.nbwebexpress.com/information/madeinusa.asp

    USA MADE BOOTS http://www.americanmadeworkboots.com/index.html

Yes, this damn is huge, they damned up three large gorges to make it. Some scientists are concerned there is so much weight change there it could actually change the tilt of the earth. The water level upstream has wiped out entire villages/farms/homes. Of course in that country it doesn't matter what happens to the people.

Hopefully my wife doesn't see this.

I did a search for silverware. She wants some new forks/spoons etc. for Christmas. I couldn't find any made here today. Check this out, this is from Google.

"Patterns made in the United States

Unfortunately, there are no stainless steel flatware patterns manufactured in the USA any longer, since Oneida closed their last factory in December 2004.

Over the years, pressure from retailers have created a situation whereby the products we buy must be available at a lower cost. For example, the trend lately is for stores to offer a stainless steel flatware service for 12 to hit the "$99 price", which makes it nearly impossible to have them made in the U.S., and manufacturers began sending nearly all of this work overseas.

For years, Korea has been making some of the finest quality stainless flatware in the world. Now, China is beginning to offer very similar quality, and is growing dramatically in market share. Gorham is now manufacturing some patterns in Vietnam. Some of the Couzon patterns are still made in France, but all patterns newer than 2003 are made in Korea.

Right now, the only flatware that is made in the USA is sterling silver flatware."

Unbelievable. Not a single USA manufacturer makes SS utensils anymore.......sad.

I make a good effort to buy in the USA.......but many times it is near impossible......I never felt guilty for buying my AWD Talon back in August 1989. I bought an HKS cat back exhaust, HKS Sport turbo (made in Japan) for my car within the 1st year that I owned the car because that was the only parts available back then. The dsms were assembled with american hands in Normal, Ill. so I felt that I helped contribute to the working american blue collar workers and their families. I don't know jack shit about silverware and such that you mentioned It is a shame that none is made here any more. If that is what the wife wants....you gotta swallow your pride and buy it even if it is made somewhere else. You have to live with her everyday.....women can be funny about that kinda shit. Trust me......you do not want to end up all balled up sleeping in your EVO cause she is pissed off because she did not get what she expected for Christmas...Hahahaha I just saw something the other day on TV about Christmas ornaments made in China......a labratory<<sp? took it upon themself to test the bulb type ornaments........all of them have extremely dangerous levels of lead, Mercury, and other known dangerous chemicals that could make a young child very sick if they were to handle them then touch their mouths......it was kinda scary to discover this Daayuum.......now that I think about it.........I wonder where my new chrome moly roll cage steel was made? I sure hope that it was not imported.......

One of the issues we talked about in my Enviromental Crimes class, was that, with all that weight, on the tectonic(sp?) plate that is currently under china, that the ring of fire on that side of the pacific will come to life in an unexpected and devistating episode of erruptions. Further more, it will be the likely cause of more underwater earth quakes, causing situations like the Tsunami that destroyed parts of Thailand, to be more frequent in nature.

This also does not take in to account the outcome of a possible disaster of one of the dam's giving way due to age/earth quake/or just about any reason you can think of. Thats A LOT of water to be holding back. The resulting, wave of water would wash across the country like a plague, smashing everything and anything between it, and quite possibly, the sea.

From what I can understand, this, gorge, is still "filling up" and will continue to do so for the next few years.

The shear devistation and damage this dam could cause would make the Tsunami and any other world disaster you can think of, look like ripples in a pond.

Shipping containers are made in china, (those giant metal semi ones), shipped over here full of stuff, and then left here because it's cheaper to make new ones, then to ship empty ones back... (that also tells me were not exporting enough stuff over there.)

People are starting to make houses and storage and what not out of them. They cost around 1500-2000 to buy one.

Some very interesting input. The one about the shipping containers blows my mind. I think I've seen those for as little as $600-800. They are popping up all over the place for storage. I considered buying a couple but they are pretty ugly.

The damn breaking would be devastating, can you imagine millions of people it would kill? Not sure how many of you have seen the Hoover damn but that is an amazing HUGE damn too, if it broke it would be devastating too. If Vegas keeps using up all the water in a few more years they won't need the damn...............

From what I understand, at full capacity, the damn will be plainly visible from outer space.

As for the containers. Got spray paint? Haha. Store your Evo in it over winter!!! "EVO XIII INSIDE"

I agree that it sucks just about everything is made in China. They export everything of theirs to use and we don't export anything over there. They buy all our scrap steal and then sell it back to use at a cheaper price than any of our steel factories could match and now most of them are out of buisness.

    Got bored and started researching.
World Bank says China's air pollution causes some 300,000 premature deaths each year.

China is now home to 16 of the world's 20 most polluted cities

Approximately 28 percent of China’s landmass has been stripped due to deforestation and soil erosion. Desertification has also been taking place due to extensive dryness in land. Land has also been destroyed due to acid rain. Polluted land is expanding by approximately two million hectares each year.About 90 percent of China’s grasslands have been degraded to varying degrees.

China has about 120 million hectares of arable land, 13 percent of its land area. China's pollution problems have damaged 10 million hectares, or one tenth, of the country's arable land.
